Our school departments hold to the teaching that we must learn and work together. Each department has collaborated to create a goal for the 2018-2019 academic year and the years to come. Though we have six department goals, each goal is focused on our common aim. This aim is to to best support our diverse learners in all they do and learn. Directly below on the left is a video of our school principal explaining how the district strategic plan guided the goals we formed. To the right is our applied skills department goal presented in a storyboard format. As you move down the page you will see the written goals all our departments created and are working towards.

Applied Skills
Our department has created vocational training rubrics which the members of our department use to daily assess students’ journey towards being ready for the vocation of their choice. As a department we would like to use these daily assessments as a data set to later study long term trends. |
English Language Arts
Based on the data (RAD assessment) our department has been collecting for many years we have formed a goal that will direct our department’s practice. An area that our students can improve in, according to the data, is making inferences. Our department has made this our targeted instruction focus for the year. |
Mathematics
Our department goal is to begin to measure the students’ perception of themselves and their math capabilities. This will inform our department on where we are in supporting our students in this aspect of math learning. We then hope to improve students’ self-image in regards to math capabilities. |
Science
Our department goal is to improve students’ scientific understanding and skills. We plan to reach this goal using a science fair model focused on hands-on learning and scientific exploration. Our department will be creating discipline wide surveys to measure the students' perspective on their scientific understanding and skills before and after completing their science fair projects. |
Social Studies
Using past data (RAD assessment) we have set the department goal to increase the percent of students achieving fully meeting and exceeding (3 and 4) scores on the RAD rubric for evaluation of text. Our aim is to increase this percentage by 10% between the Fall of 2018 to the Spring of 2019. |
Student Services
Our department goal is to have our learning spaces emanate inclusion. Our objective is to see where we are in this journey. We will collect the necessary data by March 2019 to determine the number of learners being supported by adaptions and/or modification. This data along with our department’s focus on inclusion improvement will inform our next steps. |
