FSJSS Companion Dog Pilot
Our principal Craig Houghton has a Golden Doodle named Molly who visited our school in the fall. Molly’s positive impact on learners and classrooms was clearly evident and so FSJSS is participating in a ‘Companion Dog’ pilot and helping the School District gather data on the impacts of companion dogs in schools. The school district is researching best practices around the concept of ‘companion’ / ‘therapy’ canines and associated considerations.
We are learning how Molly can be a calming influence in our school and help to bring joy to students, staff, and visitors. Follow Molly's journey in our school and the overall learning for the school district by clicking here over the coming months. |

FSJSS English department head and teacher Gretchen Vogelsang, explains how Trauma Informed Practice is a new lens that staff can use to best support student learning.
The question we are asking at FSJSS is: How is trauma impacting learners and their growth? By reflecting on this question as a staff, we can come together to create real solutions for our students and their learning progression.
